Adaptive Power and Rate Control for Real-Time Status Updating Over Fading Channels

Age of Information (AoI) has attracted much attention recently due to its capability characterizing the freshness information. To improve information over fading channels, efficient scheduling methods are highly desired for wireless transmissions. However, channel instability and arrival randomness, optimizing AoI is very challenging. In this paper, we interested in AoI-optimal transmissions with rate-adaptive transmission schemes a buffer-aware system. More specifically, utilize probabilistic method minimize while satisfying an average power constraint. By policy Constrained Markov Decision Process (CMDP), formulate Linear Programming (LP) problem. Further, low complexity algorithm presented obtain optimal policy, which proved belong set semi-threshold-based policies. Numerical results verify reduction computational optimality indicates that can achieve well real-time service complexity.
